NextGen Collective recently spotlighted TopShotPro cofounder Michael Rivero. Keep reading to learn more about his mom’s influence, a major project for 2022, and more.
Where are you from?
I was born in La Paz, Bolivia and raised in Northern Virginia.
What do you do today and where do you want to go in your career?
I’m the cofounder of TopShotPro, a real estate marketing technology company. Our mission is to revolutionize real estate unifying people and technology.
Who inspired you the most in your life growing up?
My mom. In 2001, she took a chance on herself to come to the US and give my family and myself a better life. I’m inspired by her courage, bravery, tenacity, and the willingness to sacrifice upfront pleasure and happiness in order to have a better life tomorrow filled with abundance and joy.
What do you wish you had known at the start of your career?
When I first got into marketing ten years ago, I did it for money. I wish I had known then what I know now, which is give value, be passionate, become a student of the game that you are playing, and don’t work for money, work for purpose, intention, and legacy. When I made this change, the abundance of opportunities started flowing in my direction.
What are some of the biggest challenges you see for Latinx professionals early in their careers?
The biggest challenge I see for Latinx professionals is spending too much time doing things we don’t love to meet our parents’ standards. We are not our parents. We have an opportunity to create, shape, and build a life that even five years ago did not exist. When Latinx professionals work with purpose and intention, NOT pride and ego, positive change happens. It happens within our culture and our community.
How can Latinx professionals better advocate for themselves?
Become your number one fan. We are advocating for ourselves day in and day out. Unfortunately, most times Latinx professionals advocate the wrong things, such as limiting beliefs, cultural barriers, and more.
We must learn to advocate the positive impact we make, our work, our vision, and our dreams as we bring them into the world. When we advocate positive things in action, the rest sorts itself out.
What are you most excited for in 2022?
2022 is going to be our biggest year yet. I’m personally excited to begin working on our NFT / Metaverse Project, as we will change the landscape for marketing and advertising inside the blockchain over the next ten years.
When you get a new idea, what’s the first thing you do with it?
I write down my ideas, and I look for multiplier Ideas. I take those multiplier Ideas and immediately ask for help, hire, or delegate to my team. We then add it to the calendar, and I begin working on the toughest 20% of the idea and have 80% of it completed by other people.
What behavior or personality traits do you attribute to your success?
I believe that the fruit is in the journey, not the destination. Even if I do a good job, I always wonder how I could have done things better. I treat everyday as if it’s my last, reminding myself that I have to want success for the people around me (clients, employees, family, friends) more than they’ll ever want it for themselves.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Having the opportunity to create with people who all have a shared vision, values, and principles as me. Also, as a Latinx business owner, I employ people in Central and South America, helping them build their personal economy and assisting their growth as people. That is the most rewarding part of my job.
