Liz Codina knows what it’s like to be a first-generation, low-income college student. That’s why she’s working so hard to help others with similar backgrounds to her own. She currently works as a community investment officer for the Peter Kiewit Foundation, an Omaha-based grant-making organization where she manages a $35 million portfolio of capital, general operating, and program investments. She recently developed a grant to create a new full-ride scholarship that will support up to forty students per year in attending the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, the largest scholarship investment the foundation has made in its long history.
Outside of work, Codina is involved with several local organizations, including the Nonprofit Association of the Midlands and Connecting Young Nebraskans. Her future goals include taking on new leadership positions in her community and pursuing a master’s degree and a PhD, and eventually becoming CEO or executive director of a foundation.
