CHICAGO—Hispanic Executive is proud to recognize contributions from some of the most groundbreaking Latinas in business in its annual Leading Latinas issue and a corollary event on September 19 in Chicago. The September/October 2018 edition of the magazine will feature fifteen Latina executives from across the spectrum of business and guest editor Anna Maria Chávez, executive vice president and chief growth officer at The National Council on Aging.
“Many pundits have proclaimed 2018 the year of the woman in politics,” Chávez writes in her editor’s letter. “I would argue that it is also the year for Latinas to lead—in every facet of society.”
This Leading Latinas special issue addresses many topics related to Latina leadership, including mentoring, having a global mind-set, and taking on careers in HR and STEM. In addition to featuring Latina executives who have firsthand experience in these areas, Chávez shares her insights into these topics, which she has gained over the course of more than thirty-year career in public service, taking her everywhere from the White House to her current role at The National Council on Aging. In sharing these, she is furthering her own personal mission to empower women.
“As Latinas, we have an obligation to foster and mentor the women coming behind us,” Chávez writes. “We must model the behaviors that inspire them to act.”
The fifteen women in the issue embody the best of breaking the glass ceiling and are paving the way for the next generation of Latina leadership. Some of the outstanding women in this special feature section are Anne Alonzo, president and CEO of the American Egg Board; Virginia McGathey, president of McGathey Commodities; Maria Fernandez, vice president of operations and CFO of the Latin Iberia Region at Sony Music; and Indrani Franchini, executive vice president and chief compliance officer at Alexion Pharmaceuticals.
“Indrani is a transformative leader for Alexion, setting the direction for our executive committee and the broader organization on all compliance matters as we work to provide life-changing therapies for people affected by rare diseases,” says Ludwig Hantson, CEO of Alexion. “Indrani is also a champion of our culture, embracing our values and fostering an innovative, inclusive work environment. We are thrilled to see her being recognized by Hispanic Executive. So well deserved!”
In addition to the magazine, Hispanic Executive has partnered with Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Prime Lending, AbbVie, Danone, the National Council on Aging, and the American Egg Board for a Leading Latinas event celebrating Latina leadership. The event will feature a networking hour and a panel discussion led by Chávez:
