Building Bridges

Victor Pelayo

Growing up in Mexico, Victor Pelayo observed firsthand the relationship between Mexico and the United States. “I am from a small town in Mexico where a great percentage of the families depend on the money their relatives in the USA send to them,” Pelayo says. He learned later this dependency was a two-way street. After graduating from college, he worked for IBM Mexico, realizing then that American corporations count on Mexico, not only as a business partner, but also as a client/supplier. Then he came to the United States, where he says he grasped how businesses depend on Mexican immigrants and Mexican products, as well. “I understand now how Mexico’s and the United States’ economies, safety, and success will always depend to some degree on each other,” he says. “I am hoping to contribute to the improvement and continue nourishment of the relations between my two countries.”

Career Goals

My goal is to work in a multinational company where I can apply my supply chain management knowledge and my multicultural background. Long term, I aspire to become a CSCO (chief supply chain officer) or to have my own consulting firm in supply chain management.

Dream job

My dream job would allow me to practice social responsibility. International companies should contribute to educational improvements in third world countries. We need more educated people around the globe. Third world countries are great contributors. Our success as human beings depends on how well we (all across the globe) can work together as a team helping one another.

Role models

Definitely my parents are my role models. From my mother, I learned to constantly educate myself and to pursue my dreams. From my father, I learned to appreciate life, to keep a positive attitude, and to be optimistic, even in the face of adversity.

Define Success

Success is the ability to constantly challenge oneself to obtain new goals, finding gratification in the process of accomplishing those goals, while evolving personally and professionally. I like the following proverb: “Everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you’re climbing it.”
