Lyanne Alfaro is out to conquer the world—or at least meet its challenges head-on.
She starts each day early with a run or circuit training at the local gym. What theme song pumps in her earbuds? Most likely it is Jaden’s Icon remix featuring Nicky Jam. The lyrics—“I’m about to do it way different/I am just an icon living”—fuel Alfaro and set the tone for her day. After the workout, she makes tea, listens to the morning news, and reviews goals in and outside of her job. “It’s all part of the process,” she says.
By day Alfaro works at Google, where she oversees nearly twenty accounts that tell stories about developers and build community. By night, she runs Moneda Moves, a podcast, newsletter, and platform covering Latines, their relationship with money, and their role in the American economy.
One of the challenges she’s faced has been starting her career without a network and building it for herself. “I’ve overcome it by bringing my authenticity and what I care about to work and sharing it with the right people who have been partners, mentors, and sponsors in my life.”
Alfaro was born in Chicago to parents originally from Mexico. The first-generation Latino is now the external service lead at HOLA Chicago, Google’s Latinx ERG, where she’s organized events to connect Google’s ERG to the Latinx community in the Windy City. She has also assisted Web3Familia, and organization that is on a mission to education one million Latinos and onboard them to Web3.
“I’m passionate about telling stories of underrepresented communities because the stories we tell matter and can effect change,” she says.
