Liz Nunez is passionate about increasing BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) representation in the corporate world, improving personal finance, and investing in literacy in socioeconomically disadvantaged communities. As a fundamental equities product strategist at BlackRock, she’s in a position to make a real impact in all those areas.
Nunez is responsible for providing a link between investment teams and all client groups as a specialist in sector and thematic portfolios, but her biggest accomplishment at the large investment management firm has been working with her colleagues to start and develop BlackRock’s first Latinx employee resource group. In that role, Nunez advances initiatives around the firm’s diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy, ensuring belonging and advancement for BlackRock employees and creating a philanthropic impact on the Latinx community.
The group also helps employees network and navigate career challenges like the ones Nunez has faced herself in an industry where there is little Latinx representation. “Finding authentic and supportive mentors and sponsors has been invaluable for my professional journey,” she says.
Nunez immigrated from the Dominican Republic at an early age and stays connected to her culture through family, language, literature, community, and by learning to cook her grandma’s dishes.
