Kate Hernandez is paving the way for a lot of people, but especially for Latinas in venture capital. Today, she is the youngest partner—and the only female partner—at Detroit Venture Partners, an early-stage venture capital firm that was created with a vision to grow Detroit’s entrepreneurial community. She splits her time between direct investing, investing in venture funds, building ventures, and supporting portfolio companies. She’s also highly committed to the company’s mission of closing the diversity gap in tech. Indeed, when asked about her greatest career accomplishment, she cited speaking at a White House Round Table on the importance of closing that very gap.
Outside of work, Kate acts as a board advisor to multiple portfolio companies and as a financial advisor to Crediverso, the nation’s first financial products marketplace for Hispanics. In future, she sees herself running a company focused on helping people in her community go into business for themselves. Growing up, she knew many people who wanted to start their own businesses to create better lives for themselves, their families, and their communities but encountered many obstacles in their paths. She’s eager—and more than ready—to help tear those barriers down.
