What is your greatest career accomplishment to date?
As a brand, we’ve been leveraging TikTok to connect and engage with our community. After posting two separate videos, we received over one thousand applicants from Latina and Latinx content creators that showed interest in supporting our brand and working with us. As a result, we have worked with over fifty creators for paid brand collaborations and affiliate programs. I’m proud that we have created relationships with these creators as they’re growing their careers on social media, and that we can support each other as a community.
What is your greatest personal accomplishment to date?
Taking the risk of quitting my full-time corporate job in the skincare industry to launch my own business with my two sisters is my greatest achievement. Leaving the security of a steady job to pursue my entrepreneurial dreams took courage and determination and to be able to achieve my goals and dreams with my sisters is truly a blessing for me.
What do you do today to impact your community?
I create an impact our community through my beauty brand. That’s always top of mind for me. It’s something my dad has always engrained me—to do something to support our community. In addition to partnering with Latina and Latinx content creators and affiliates, we create products that resonate with our community. We invited our community to participate in the product development and creative process where they can test our formula samples, provide feedback on ingredients and efficacy, and suggest product names. Collaborating with our community on such an important aspect of our brand allows them to have a say in addressing their needs and wants in our products. Listening to what they want from us and being able to facilitate creating products to their liking aligns with our brand goal of always connecting and supporting our community. I’m excited about the upcoming initiatives we have planned next year as well.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years, I see myself continuing to lead the growth of our body care brand, Vavica. I plan to expand our reach by partnering with strategic beauty retailers that align with our vision and values. I hope that we have already launched or will be launching at Ulta and Sephora in five years. That’s our long-term goal for Vavica and for myself, ensuring I’m making the right moves to get there. We believe that this will allow us to connect with our community on a larger scale and be able to expand our product assortment that will be accessible to more consumers. It’s important to us to be a part of the community we serve. As I grow our brand with my sisters, I want to contribute a portion of our proceeds to a nonprofit organization that is putting their efforts in helping and supporting our community.
What is the biggest issue that you want to help solve, and why?
Working in the skincare industry for many years, we saw the gap in the industry that begged to be filled: an inclusive body care brand that embraces and celebrates our Latin culture in a luxurious and modern way. We strive to become the go-to body care brand for Latinas and create space in an industry that has historically overlooked our Latin community.
What is a surprising hobby or interest that helps you stay creative and energized?
I prioritize my wellness so anything that can help my body and mind is important to me. I love doing breathwork classes as well as sauna sessions and cold plunges. They help me release any stress that my body and mind are holding on to and helps reset my energy.
What is your Latino background?
I was born and raised in Los Angeles. My mom is from Argentina and my dad is from Guatemala. They both moved to LA at a young age and met working at an Italian restaurant as a bus boy and waitress. Growing up, I’ve always been extremely close with my family on both sides. I’m grateful that I grew up traveling to Guatemala and Argentina frequently to see my family. It allowed me to connect with my roots and culture.
What song do you listen to that motivates you?
Anything Beyoncé! “Break My Soul” always motivates me.
