Luis Maes is the vice president of community impact for the Kansas City Royals, where he leads the community impact department, including the Royals Charities,  Urban Youth Academy, and Royals Hall of Fame and Ballpark Experiences. Maes uses the power of sport and baseball to unite and move the community forward.

Prior to joining the Royals, Maes was the head of global social impact at Electronic Arts (EA), where he built an environmental, social, and governance (ESG) function at the company and led the prioritization and goal setting of EA’s key ESG focus areas based on materiality, corporate strengths, and brand growth opportunities.

Maes joined EA from Nike, where he created and led a first-of-its-kind team that leveraged $3 billion of corporate assets to bring community impact, diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as environmental sustainability to communities where Nike employees and athletes live, work, and play. He also led strategic planning for Nike’s global social impact strategy, which has been recognized as an industry-leading approach and resulted in game-changing impact for communities all over the world. Before joining Nike, Luis led social and community impact efforts at Walmart and in the government and nonprofit sectors.

Luis is a proud husband to Margaret, and father to Santiago, Camila, and Lucho.  He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and master’s degrees from Harvard University and Duke University. He serves on faculty for the Sports and Entertainment Impact Collective and is a member of both The Alumni Society and Kansas City Tomorrow.
