Alana Meraz is an Arizona native with an interest in sports which originated when she watched soccer matches with her family on Sundays and attended games to support their home baseball team, the Arizona Diamondbacks.
During her college years, she interned the Phoenix Rising FC and the Sun Devil Athletics, worked at the AZ Diamondbacks in game day operations, and belonged to the street team. After graduating from Arizona State University, she pursued her master’s degree in sports management and law at the Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economía in Barcelona.
Meraz lives by the motto, “if you can see them, you can be them.” This is the core of her organization, Latinx In Sports, which she founded on October of 2020. Latinx In Sports is a growing community of current and future sports professionals whose goal is to further advance Latinx representation and influence in the sports industry beyond Hispanic Heritage Month. Its mission is amplifying voices by growing Latinx presence through mentorship, organic connection, and love for the culture.
Meraz is confident that this community empowers members and is paving the way for future generations. Today, Latinx in Sports has a following of over 6,500 on their social platforms and a database of over 850 members that range from industry veterans to college-aged members, as well as industry hopefuls.
