In keeping with our mission to stay on top of hot news, NextGen Collective reached out to our comunidad for some basics on the metaverse. TopShotPro Cofounder Michael Rivero graciously answered the call. Here are some facts and resources to help you stay in the know.
What is the metaverse? How would you explain the metaverse to your abuela?
The metaverse is an online space for people all over the world, communities, and groups to interact with each other in a more immersive way online than they would in a traditional website.
To explain the metaverse to my abuelita, I’d have her watch the movie Ready Player One (a personal favorite) and explain how, through technology, people are able to immerse themselves into virtual alternative worlds and work, play, make money, build things, and explore their imagination.
Why is the metaverse such a big deal right now?
The metaverse is becoming a big deal because it’s gaining traction and publicity. It’s something that has been around for a while, however, technology and awareness are finally catching up to it.
It’s also a big deal right now because the gaming industry has been growing year-after-year, and projects like Sandbox and Decentraland are gaining more exposure and growing their market share as users are becoming more curious about what they can do inside the metaverse.
What resources do you recommend to learn more about the metaverse?
I love going into rabbit holes about this subject because it’s so fresh, and everyone has a different thought, opinion, and take on the metaverse. I’d recommend skipping the notebooks and going directly to some of the sources. Get yourself an Oculus and play. Head over to decentraland.org and create, explore all that you can do inside this virtual world as a user. Head over to sandbox.game and do the same thing. Some other resources I’d like to recommend are Binance Academy and Metaverse Masterclass on Udemy. Also, Coursera has a couple of great courses on blockchain technology, NFTs, and the metaverse. Lastly, look at innovators. One of the best books I’ve read most recently is called The Future Is Faster Than You Think by Peter Diamandis.
What other thoughts do you have on the metaverse?
The metaverse will provide people around the world an opportunity to revolutionize industries, reinvent old business models, and build without limitation beyond their imagination. If you are a millennial, a Gen Z, or simply love the advancement of people and technology, be a student of blockchain technology and everything that the metaverse will offer. Right now, people still see it as a game, so spend forty hours learning about this and dive in. The more you learn now, the more prepared you will be for the technological advancements that are yet to come. I’m excited because here at TopShotPro we’re already starting on our journey into the metaverse with a very special project which will start in 2022 and we’re excited to see what it results in by 2032. Think long-term with the metaverse.
