Welcome to our fourth annual Best of the Boardroom edition and, indiscriminately, the second annual boardroom issue in which the majority of our honorees are female.
By happy accident, and not at all by design, our top board directors of the year are paving the way for both women and Latinos in the corporate boardroom. As of 2016, the vast majority of board members in the Fortune 100 continue to be white men, with women representing about 20 percent of corporate board directors and women of color, only about 4 percent. The 2016 Best of the Boardroom, however, are not wasting time complaining about statistics. Instead, male and female board directors alike are taking active roles in improving these statistics year over year, contributing their talents and expertise in the only way they know how—with passion and dedication.
