The Hands-on Consultant

Though born in New York, Juan David Bolivar, 33, considers himself fortunate to have lived in Colombia during his adolescence where he learned firsthand the challenges people face in Latin America. Committed to making the most of each opportunity, Bolivar decided to return to the United States to expand his interest in working with people, processes, and technology by pursuing a degree in industrial engineering. His career has spanned from engineering, business software consulting, and most recently, into management consulting. After graduating with an MBA in May 2012 from the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University Bloomington, he joined Accenture as a consultant.

Role model

Álvaro Uribe Vélez
I often think how hard it must be for politicians and heads of state to attain positive changes in society, and for that reason, Álvaro Uribe Vélez, the former president of Colombia, is one of my role models for having been able to turn our country around … Having lived in Colombia prior to the turnaround led by Vélez, I witnessed the challenges civilians faced and to this day I often think to myself if he was able to achieve such great results leading a country, I can achieve great results in each activity I’m involved in.

Dream job

My dream job will allow me to work within a team in a variety of industries, on projects that leverage analytical tools and technologies that optimize business processes. I was fortunate to have been exposed to consulting prior to my MBA and I continue to consider it my dream job post MBA.

Define success

Not the final achievement, but the process by which an individual, a team, or an organization is passionate about an idea or a goal, and are fully committed and capable of executing regardless of the challenges faced.
