If anyone understands the power of persistence, it’s Victor De Lara. He opted to study psychology in college, but took a finance class and enjoyed it so much he decided to apply for a job at Goldman Sachs straight out of college. He didn’t get the role at first, but continued to show his interest in the company and grow his network. Today, he is an associate product controller at Goldman Sachs: he provides valuation oversight for securities held within Goldman Sachs’s mutual funds. He’s also a product owner of various automation-focused projects and works with the engineering and product teams to introduce efficiencies and mitigate risk in processes and controls.
Through it all, he finds time to give back. Within Goldman, De Lara is the co-chief operating officer of the Hispanic and Latinx Affinity Network for the company’s Salt Lake City office. Outside of Goldman, he volunteers with Latinos in Action, which focuses on empowering Latino youth. His future goals include progressing his career, becoming a chartered financial analyst, continuing with his community service, and pursuing a PhD. If his past is any indication, the future will bring many more successes for De Lara.
