Silvia Jaramillo-Regalado is a data analyst and executive director but her most important title may be that of advocate. She’s a self-proclaimed proponent and champion of “all things data, women-in-tech, and community efforts.”
The Rutgers graduate works as a data analyst via the business leadership program at Synchrony Financial. She’s also the director of Organización Juventud Ecuatoriana (JUVE), a nonprofit based in the New York City tristate area. JUVE aims to promote Ecuadorian heritage and culture through annual community projects while also facilitating support for Ecuadorian and Hispanic/Latinx students in their academic and professional careers through educational resources.
In addition to holding these roles, Jaramillo-Regalado has made herself into a community figure and leading thinker in the women-in-tech and people-of-color-in-tech realms. Jaramillo-Regalado remembers what it was like to navigate the early parts her career without a wealth of resources and while sometimes being the only Latina in the room.
“Overcoming these hardships took a great amount of showing up with an adaptable mindset, treating every new encounter with a stranger as a networking opportunity, and self-reflecting on how I work and how I can help myself in the best way possible,” she says.
Now, the advocate is doing all she can to elevate diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and bring opportunities to communities facing barriers to higher education in the STEM fields and other areas. At Synchrony, Jaramillo-Regalado is part of multiple diversity networks. She also serves as a JROTC Advisory Committee Member for Barringer Arts High School in Newark, New Jersey; a national ambassador for PBS SciGirls, TECHNOLOchicas (a Televisa-backed initiative), FabFems, and the National Center for Women & Information Technology.
