30 Under 30: Jimmy Ramirez

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Jimmy Ramirez has a long history of working with incarcerated and high-risk youth in the Detroit area. He actively partners with the Detroit Phoenix Center founder and CEO Courtney Smith to support youth who are exiting incarceration and facing homelessness.

During a six-year stint at Google, where he served as a multicultural media leader, he helped build Project Proximate, where he brought digital skills workshops to a youth detention center outside of Detroit.

Ramirez later took a leap of faith, leaving Google to become a full-time filmmaker. In the coming months, he will release a multimedia project that focuses on the legacy of marijuana within his family. He plans to carry on with his mission of helping people from underrepresented groups achieve their goals. With a deep sense of responsibility towards incarcerated youth, a sense of humor, and a drive to see things done well, Ramirez is easily on a path to become a household name.
