All for the Good of the Consumer

Karina Nuñez-Rojas

The proud daughter of Dominican parents, Karina Nuñez-Rojas grew up in the bustling Washington Heights community of New York City. She graduated from Manhattan College in 2002 and, after working in social services, earned a master’s degree in social work at Columbia University. After five rewarding years working at a New York City charter school, Nuñez-Rojas decided to pursue an MBA at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business to transition to a brand-management role. “My goal is to rise to a senior leadership position at a CPG [consumer packaged goods] firm that focuses on health and wellness or personal-care products,” Nuñez-Rojas says. “Just as important to my professional growth, I aim to provide mentorship and open doors to other women and minorities in business.”

Industry Pulse

Social media and big data have had a dynamic impact on consumers’ relationships with brands. I have had great opportunities to engage with industry leaders inside and outside of the classroom to think about these trends and how companies can use them to gain a competitive advantage.

Dream job
I thrive in team settings, so it goes without saying that in my dream job I would be working with a team of highly driven, intelligent, and humble people. I would have access to incredible mentors and opportunities to step outside of my comfort zone and take on new professional challenges. Yet, I would have the balance to have a shared focus on family.

Define Success
Success is a journey. Throughout your course, your intended destination will often change. Ultimately, it is the outcome of stretching yourself to become (and be at peace with) the best version of yourself.
